Stark & Stark- swapping the courtroom for construction site!

Tuesday, June 28, 2022

Staff and attorneys at Stark & Stark are swapping the courtroom for the construction site this week as they volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey. On June 28, 29, & 30, you’ll catch the employees in action as they help complete a home repair project for a local homeowner in Ewing.

“We are very excited to participate in the great work that Habitat For Humanity does for our community. It is a privilege to support the community in which we live and work, says Stark & Stark Managing Shareholder Michael Donahue.

“Team Habitats are a great way for businesses the opportunity to offer employees meaningful volunteer experiences while also strengthening the quality of relationships with their colleagues,” explains Annie Fox, Chief Development Officer at Habitat SCNJ, “By taking employees outside of the usual day-to-day work environment, they’re able to step outside of their comfort zones and improve or develop skills they may not know they had.”

Stark & Stark has supported Habitat SCNJ through sponsored volunteer days like this in the past but took a brief hiatus during times when health and safety restrictions revolving around Covid-19 limited volunteering opportunities. Now they’re back in action, lending their hearts, hands, and hammers to neighbors in need. Along with three days of volunteer labor, the firm has committed a gift of $10,000 to help build and improve homes in the community. The time, effort, and funding by Stark & Stark not only helps make towns safe, modern, and accessible for all its residents, but it also furthers Habitat SCNJ’s impact by providing individuals with financial support, improving their health and wellbeing, and promoting community stability.

The homeowner, Alice, has lived in her Ewing home for over 19 years. She has worked hard to balance work, caring for her 5 children, and maintaining her home, but over time, little problems became too big to take on by herself. She had initially sought Habitat’s help in early 2020, but due to the unforeseen challenges posed by Covid-19, Alice’s work was delayed. She remained hopeful, however, and patiently waited until the day she could get the hand-up she needed.

Now, with the help of Stark & Stark employees, Alice is receiving extensive repairs on her home. While Habitat is partnering with trusted contractors in the area to provide electrical, plumbing, and masonry work, volunteers will be completing tasks like repairing soffits, installing doors, replacing handrails, and improving the front steps with concrete and paint.

You can find photos of the volunteers at work and see the improvements made to the home by checking out @HabitatSCNJ on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
