Charity Build October 2019

Swap your suits for boots and help Habitat BMC build homes and dreams right here in our community. The Charity Build is a simple concept. Teams of employees come together for a friendly competition while building a Habitat home!  During the Habitat provided lunch, the teams will hear stories shared by current Habitat homeowners, future Habitat homeowners, and staff. This is a wonderful team building experience for the partnering businesses, promoting workforce unity while making a significant contribution to our community.

In 2019, Charity Build activities focused World Habitat Day’s message of building a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  Poverty housing looks different in the US than it does in other countries, and we forget that some basic necessities here are luxuries in other communities. Charity Build teams were tasked with creating shelter from items often used to build housing in poverty-stricken communities around the world like wood pallets, tarps, sheet metal, and cardboard. The teams were encouraged to be mindful of the obstacles these families face with each shelter tested on its level of safety, decency, and affordability. Through the event’s activities, teams grew their awareness of conditions low-income families endure, as well as knowledge of how Habitat is working to build brighter futures for them.
