Veteran’s Family Enjoys Home Ownership With New Habitat for Humanity Home in Palmyra
We’re spreading some holiday cheer with the help of our friends at Carrabba’s!
Carrabba’s donated 50 prepared meals to service members on the Joint Base MDL who are currently quarantining before their deployment on Jan 6th. These men and women are sacrificing precious time with loved ones this holiday season to serve our country, and we are happy to be a part of bringing a little joy to them!
A Virtual Holiday Celebration Brings Habitat Staff, Volunteers, Homeowners, and Partner Families Together!
Serving Those Who Have So Selflessly Served Us: Veteran Homeowner Receives a New Roof and Home Repairs.
Every family we serve has a beautiful story that demonstrates their determination to build a better future for themselves and their families. One homeowner that we’ve worked with this year is particularly special – McDonald Martin, an Air Force Veteran and longtime resident of Palmyra. McDonald has lived a life of service – and now we get to serve him!
As you may know, our partner families prepare for homeownership by contributing “sweat equity.” You might picture them putting in time on the construction site building their home and fellow partner families’ homes as well as repairing homes for neighbors in need
But some partner families choose to volunteer in the community as a part of their sweat equity, and this holiday season, one of our families has gone above and beyond to give back.
The sold out 2020 “Straight Outta Lockdown” Golf Outing hosted at Old York Country Club in Chesterfield was in place of our annual Charity Build fundraiser. During a time full of isolation and uncertainty, this event reminded me that we are all in this together, and together we can do extraordinary things.
Our golfers and sponsors raised over $60,000, which will help ensure that hard working families in our community have a safe place to call home. Despite the challenges we face now and moving forward, thanks to you, Habitat will continue to build homes, complete repairs, and provide homeowner preparation for our partner families.
